Catawba County Public Health reports 27 new COVID-19 infections Wednesday (August 19), increasing the total to 2,394, with 36 deaths. There were 19 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Catawba County, one fewer than Tuesday (August 18). As of Wednesday, there had been 19,906 tests completed with 17,583 negative results. The infection rate among those tested was just under 12% and the death rate among those who tested positive was 1.5%. At least 1,903 patients had recovered.
Burke County Public Health was notified Wednesday of the 31st COVID-19-associated death in the county. The individual in their 70s was hospitalized. 17 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday in Burke County, increasing the total to 1,892. There were 11 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Burke County and at least 1,562 patients had recovered.
23 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Wednesday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 1,333, with 18 deaths. There were 16 people hospitalized with the coronavirus and at least 728 patients had recovered.
