Three-Vehicle Crash in Catawba County Involves Activity Bus from Stokes County

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident Wednesday afternoon (March 20) that involved two passenger vehicles and an activity bus.

At about 3:20 p.m. on March 20, the Highway Patrol responded to the collision in Catawba County on Interstate-40 East near mile marker 129. Two eastbound passenger vehicles struck each other. The collision caused one of the vehicles to lose control and sideswipe an activity bus from Stokes County.

There were 33 students on the bus at the time of the collision. Eight were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The drivers from the initial collision were transported by E.M.S. to an area hospital with what were described as minor injuries. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed for approximately one hour.

Both drivers from the initial collision were charged with unsafe movement. No charges will be filed against the driver of the activity bus.
