Three Suspects Charged In Connection To Law Enforcement Operation Conducted On Interstates

32-year-old Rafael Moreno of Buffalo, New York, 44-year-old Steven Salgado of Bronx, New York, and 30-year-old Brandon O’Lawrence Morten of Atlanta, Georgia were all arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. Moreno and Salgado are each charged with felony counts of trafficking cocaine and trafficking schedule I controlled substance. Morten is charged with felony trafficking schedule VI controlled substance. WHKY previously reported on the arrests of the three suspects, more information has been released.

Between Tuesday, May 3, and Thursday, May 5, 2022 deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team sponsored a three-day criminal interdiction operation focusing on Interstates 40 and 77. During this operation deputies and police officers from across North Carolina came to Iredell County to learn and observe how they conduct Interstate Criminal Enforcement operations.

Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Team, Granville County Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Team, and officers with the High Point Police Department, Archdale Police Department Interdiction Team, and Special Agents with the United States Department of Homeland Security focused on individuals traveling through Iredell County conducting criminal activity.

During the three-day operation deputies and officers conducted over 100 traffic stops from those stops the following items were seized: 775 Grams of Cocaine, 135 Grams of Heroin, 10.5 pounds of Marijuana, and one gram of MDMA (Ecstasy), two vehicles and more than $40,000 directly tied to criminal activity. One wanted person was also apprehended.

Moreno and Salgado were each placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $2,000,000 secured bond, bond for Morten was set at $40,000 secured. Moreno and Salgado remained in jail as of earlier today (May 13), Morten is not listed as an inmate in Iredell County. All three suspects are scheduled to appear in District Court May 25.
