Three Suspects Charged In Connection To Convenience Store Robbery

42-year-old Elizabeth Mayetta Hardin, 50-year-old Davina Lynn Witherspoon, and 72-year-old Carl Edward Reese, all of Charlotte, were arrested Monday (August 24) by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers. Hardin is charged with one felony count each of common law robbery, conspiracy, and possession of stolen goods. She was also served with five outstanding warrants out of Mecklenburg County. Witherspoon and Reese were charged with one felony count each of common law robbery, conspiracy, and possession of stolen goods.

Deputies were dispatched shortly after 9:00 p.m. to the Quik Trip convenience store on NC Highway 73 in Denver. Two witnesses told officers a woman jumped over the counter and began loading a trash bag with cigarettes, lottery tickets and other items. At the same time a second suspect was removing beer from a cooler and left the scene without paying.

The suspects fled the scene in a red Nissan occupied by a male driver. Officers in the area received a description and license plate number of the vehicle over the radio. A deputy patrolling in the area of Highway 73 and Highway 27 found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 150 East and Highway 27 East.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered all of the items stolen from the Quik Trip store. Hardin was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $34,500 secured bond. Witherspoon and Reese were jailed under a $20,000 secured bond each. They remained in jail as of earlier today (August 26). All three suspects are scheduled to appear in District Court September 17.
