Three from Morganton Arrested on Felony Drug Charges (Updated with second Henson arrest, 5:14 a.m. 4/6/22)

64-year-old Kathy Benfield Cook, 33-year-old Stacy Rachelle Mayfield, and 51-year-old Allen Lee Henson, all from the same address on Mountain View Drive in Morganton, have been arrested by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. They were each charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Mayfield was also charged with felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance. Mayfield and Henson both face an additional count for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Their arrests are the result of an investigation that began on March 24. Burke County Narcotics Investigators and Officers with the North Carolina Department of Probation & Parole obtained a search warrant for the Mountain View Drive residence. Investigators made contact with all three suspects and detained them as the search was conducted. Investigators found heroin, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Henson was arrested again on Monday (April 4) and charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver methamphetamine, and possession of meth along with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. On Monday, Burke County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators conducted a vehicle stop of a silver Lincoln on Main Street West in Valdese. During a search of the vehicle, meth was reportedly found, and Henson reportedly had the same drug in his possession.

Following the initial arrests, Cook, Mayfield, and Henson were all placed in the Burke County Jail. Cook and Henson were each given a $10,000 secured bond. Mayfield’s bond was set at $25,000, secured. All three were later released on bond. Following the second arrest, Henson was placed in jail under $75,000 secured bond, he remained in jail as of today (April 6). Cook and Mayfield have District Court dates April 14. Henson is scheduled to appear in District Court Thursday (April 7) and April 14.
