38-year-old Javon Dooley of Radio Road in Statesville, 48-year-old Sabrina Starnes of Foreman Street in Morganton, and 34-year-old Katia Celaina Christian of Smith Road in Morganton were all arrested by Hickory Police shortly after one o’clock Monday afternoon (June 21). Dooley and Starnes were both charged with one felony count each of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretenses. Starnes was also charged with one felony count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, along with one misdemeanor count of resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer. In addition, Dooley was charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Christian was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
They were arrested after Officers responded to a bank on 4th Street N.W. where a subject allegedly attempted to pass a fraudulent check. The suspect was leaving the bank when Officers arrived. A traffic stop was conducted not far from the bank. During the stop, Police reportedly found 17 dosage units of amphetamines or methamphetamine and the check in question. Christian was in possession of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Morganton. Dooley was a passenger in the vehicle.
All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. They were taken to the Catawba County Detention Facility with bond for Dooley set at $11,000, secured, while Starnes was given a $10,000 secured bond. Christian was initially held without bond. Bond has since been set at $150,000, secured. The suspects all remained in jail as of this morning (June 25). First appearances in District Court were scheduled Tuesday (June 22) in Newton with the next court date for all three suspects coming up on July 13.
