Three Appalachian State Track and Field Student-Athletes Compete at U20 Outdoor Championship

App State junior Jada Branch, freshman Karsyn Kane, and incoming freshman Lane Hoyes closed out competition at the Toyota USATF Elite and U20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene this weekend.

Branch posted a leap of 12.73m (41′ 9.25″) in the Elite women’s triple jump on Saturday. The second-team All-Sun Belt honoree placed fifth in her flight and 14th overall. Currently, she is fourth in the App State all-time list in the triple jump, with a leap of 12.90m (42′ 4″), which she recorded at the NCAA East Preliminary Round (May 25-26).

Saturday’s action also saw Kane stop the clock at 12:16.11 to place fifth in the U20 women’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Kane currently is ninth in the App State record book with a time of 10:56.39 in the event, which she clocked at the Sun Belt Championships (May 12-14) to earn third-team All-Sun Belt accolades. The State College, Pa. native is the third woman and ninth athlete to represent App State in the 3000-meter steeplechase race at the USATF U20 Championships.

Incoming freshman Lane Hoyes finished ninth in the U20 men’s 5000 meters on Thursday, with a time of 14:33.68, which is a new Kentucky state high school record.
