Third Suspect In Fatal Shooting Taken Into Custody
22-year-old Javis Black of Statesville was arrested Tuesday (March 28) in West Virginia. According to information released Tuesday by Statesville Police, he was wanted in connection to the murder of Zion Wilder and attempted murder of a juvenile who was still reported to be in critical condition. Two other suspects have already been arrested and charged in this case.
On Tuesday, the United States Marshall Service, with the assistance of Carolina’s Regional Task Force, conducted searches at two residences in Beckley, West Virginia. During these searches, Javis Black was taken into custody without incident. 25-year-old Dakota Michael Duke of Troutman and 24-year-old Tevin D. Seymore of Statesville were previously arrested in connection to the shooting incident, which was previously reported by WHKY.

The two previously arrested suspects are charged with murder, attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On March 15 at approximately 10 p.m. the Statesville Police Department responded to a call for shots fired on Goldsboro Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and found people who told them that individuals in the house had been shot. Upon entering the residence, officers found 19-year-old Zion Wilder of Statesville, deceased on the floor from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A second victim, a 15-year-old male from Statesville, was also found inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The juvenile was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was contacted and responded to assist with processing the crime scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that suspects fired multiple rounds into the front of the residence, from the street, striking both victims. In addition to the victims, three adults and three juveniles, ages 14,16 and 17, were also inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Duke was arrested March 17 at his residence. Seymore was apprehended by U.S. Marshals March 18 in Charleston, West Virginia. Duke was being held without bond in Iredell County. Seymore was incarcerated in West Virginia pending extradition. As of today (March 29), he was not listed as an inmate in Iredell County. As of earlier today, Black was being held at the Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Raleigh County, West Virginia. No court date was listed.
