Teenager Killed In Saturday Crash In Burke County

A Burke County teenager was killed in a Saturday (May 4) crash. The deceased is 16-year-old Savannah Marie Green of Connelly Springs.

On Saturday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on Henry River Road near Rudisill Street. A 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling north on Henry River Road, drove off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, and struck a tree.

The driver, Savannah Marie Green was critically injured and transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, where she passed away due to her injuries.  Her father 42-year-old Christopher Swink of Hiddenite, who was a passenger in the truck was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the on-scene investigation, Henry River Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours.  The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision.
