One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Alexander County this morning (August 30). The deceased is 79-year-old Omie Troxell Echerd of Taylorsville.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene at about 9:15 a.m. today on U.S. Highway 64 near Liberty Grove Church Road. Ms. Echerd, who was driving a 2018 Toyota C-HR, was attempting to turn left from a private driveway when she pulled into the path of a westbound 2003 Ford F-350.

Ms. Echerd passed away at the scene. The Ford was driven by an 18-year-old male from Hiddenite. He and his passenger were not injured.

The Highway Patrol’s initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. No charges will be filed. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.
