Taylorsville Man Charged In Late Sunday Night Shooting

58-year-old Christopher Michael Carlay of Taylorsville was arrested today (January 22) by Alexander County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

On Sunday (January 21) at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Alexander County Communications Center received a call regarding a shooting at an addresss on McAlpin Lane in Taylorsville. Deputies arrived on the scene and found the victim, a 43-year-old Taylorsville man, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The investigation revealed that a verbal argument had escalated into a shooting. The suspect, Christopher Michael Carlay, was still at the residence. The victim was treated by first responders and EMS and airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte. Carlay was later arrested and charged.

Carlay is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. A District Court date was scheduled today.
