TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — A Taylorsville man already being held on domestic violence-related charges is now accused of possessing a controlled substance inside the Alexander County Detention Center.

According to our news partner WACB, 41-year-old Robert John Britting was charged Thursday, July 9, with felony possession of a controlled substance on jail premises. Online booking information also lists a drug-paraphernalia charge and appears to show two counts of possessing a controlled substance on jail premises.

Britting had been in custody since his June 23 arrest by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. He was initially charged with assault on a female and a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. Authorities later charged him with violating his pretrial release in connection with pending breaking-and-entering and larceny charges.

Booking information lists bonds of $12,000 on the assault charge, $30,000 for the alleged pretrial-release violation and $40,000 on the jail-related drug charges. Those figures would bring the listed bonds to a combined $82,000.

Authorities have not released information identifying the suspected controlled substance or explaining how it allegedly entered the detention center. Britting remained in custody as of Friday. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
