26-year-old Miracle Leanne Hicks of Newbern Avenue in Statesville and 38-year-old Joseph Hal Shew of Olin Loop in Olin were arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. They’re both charged with felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance along with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Hicks is also charged with failure to appear.

On Monday, October 30, 2023, a deputy with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team conducted a traffic stop on a 1999 Honda Accord. After further investigation it was determined that the passenger, Miracle Leanne Hicks, had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

When placing Hicks under arrest the driver, Joseph Hal Shew, was seen attempting to conceal something, this was reportedly found to be a bag of crystal methamphetamine. The meth was seized and Shew was also placed under arrest. Before transporting the suspects to the Iredell County Detention Center a search was conducted that revealed Hicks was concealing meth in her sock.

They were then transported to the Detention Center, Hicks under a $6,000 secured bond and Shew under a $5,000 secured bond. Neither suspect was listed as an inmate in Iredell County as of earlier today (November 9). They’re both scheduled to appear in District Court November 21.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Shew has a criminal history that includes felony indecent liberties with a minor and failure to report a new address as a sex offender. The Sheriff’s Office also says that Hicks is on probation for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
