Suspect Sought In Home Invasion, Resident Shot By Offender

A Bethlehem man was shot during a home-invasion on Friday (August 31) and a suspect was being sought. According to Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman, a 76-year old male was assaulted in his home on Steel Bridge Loop around 7:30 a.m. Friday. A man entered the residence dressed in black. The suspect was wearing a medical mask. No other description was given by the victim.

The suspect was armed and demanded money. Sheriff Bowman indicates there was a scuffle between the suspect and victim. At some point the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. The suspect left the residence and the incident was not reported until Friday afternoon when the victim’s wife returned home and found her husband suffering a gunshot wound.

The wife transported her husband to an area hospital. A daughter called 911 at this point to report the incident. The victim was treated and released. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office would like anyone with any information regarding this crime to call 828-632-1111 or Crime Stoppers of Alexander County at 828-632-8555.
