Suspect Sought By Authorities In Connection To Attempted Robbery At Restaurant

A suspect was being sought by authorities in connection to an attempted robbery at a business in Morganton. The individual wanted by police is James Andre Mcelreath of 2566 Jamestown Road, Lot 3, in Morganton.

On Tuesday (January 2) at 8:42 a.m. Morganton Department of Public Safety Officers were dispatched to Little Caesars on West Fleming Drive in reference to an assault call. When officers arrived they discovered that an employee was beaten and was bleeding from the head. The victim was transported to the hospital by Burke County EMS for treatment.

During the investigation it was determined that the assault occurred during the commission of an attempted armed robbery. The Morganton Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. The investigation revealed that a firearm was used during the robbery. The suspect was identified as James Andre Mcelreath. Warrants have been issued against Mcelreath for attempted armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Mcelreath had not been arrested as of earlier today (January 3). He was to be considered armed and dangerous. The investigation in this case continues and there may be additional charges pending.
