Suspect Recently Charged With Crimes In Lincoln, Catawba Counties Arrested In Connection To Myrtle Beach Crime

A suspect recently charged in connection to a sex offense in Lincoln County has had charge filed against him in connection to an alleged crime at Myrtle Beach. The suspect is charged with committing an offense against an intoxicated juvenile in 2023 at Ocean Lakes Campground in Horry County.

According to published reports from Horry County, 30-year-old Maxwell Sidney Fletcher, who is listed as a resident of Lincolnton, was arrested Monday (June 10) and charged with first-degree assault and battery. Horry County police learned about the alleged assault on May 23, according to a police report. An arrest warrant shows the incident happened sometime between the evening hours of April 10, 2023, and the next morning.

Fletcher allegedly gave the juvenile “excessive amounts of alcohol” before the assault, which left the victim “in a state where he was unable to stop” his advances, according to the warrant. According to a WHKY report from May 21, Fletcher was taken into custody May 20 by detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with statutory sex offense with a child 15-years-old or younger.

Fletcher had a prior arrest in South Carolina, as previously reported on WHKY. He was also served with outstanding warrants from Catawba County for charges including felony counts of second-degree kidnapping and indecent liberties with a child. At the time of his arrest, Fletcher held positions as both a teacher and coach at W.C. Friday Middle School in Dallas, N.C., which is part of the Gaston County School system. He also previously served as a coach in the Lincoln County Schools system.

Fletcher is currently under investigation by multiple counties for alleged sex offenses, which authorities believed to have occurred across various neighboring jurisdictions. It is anticipated that further charges will be filed.

Following Monday’s arrest, Fletcher was booked into the J. Rueben Long Detention Center in Horry County then later released on a $7,500 bond. He had a District Court date on the charges filed against him in Catawba County on Thursday (June 13).
