Suspect Previously Convicted For Cyberstalking Charged With Sex Offenses

61-year-old Charles Timothy Browne was arrested Tuesday (April 23) by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child, one felony count of statutory sex offense with a child 15-years-old or younger and one misdemeanor count of assault on a female.

On March 23, 2024, a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office regarding a juvenile who had been receiving sexually explicit text messages from an adult male. The suspect was identified as Charles Timothy Browne. The report was assigned to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect had allegedly sexually assaulted the juvenile within the past year.

Based on evidence gathered through the investigation, the felony arrest warrants were obtained against Browne. He was found by the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday and was taken into custody shortly before 8 a.m. on that day at an address on East Broad Street in Statesville.

Browne was convicted by federal authorities in 2019 for cyberstalking and was sentenced to 43 months in prison. The charge was filed after Browne sent more than 700 harassing and intimidating text messages to a female victim. In the messages he talked about a weapon he owned, encouraged the victim to keep her doors locked, and told her that she would feel pain. The woman took out a protective order that prohibited him from contacting her.

Browne was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where bond was set at $50,000 secured bond on the indecent liberties charges. He was jailed under no bond on the statutory sex offense charge. He has District Court dates scheduled for May 10 and May 14.
