Suspect Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

Today (August 13) at 12:03 a.m. Hickory Police received multiple 911 calls to respond to the 800 block of 5th Ave SW in reference to gunshots being fired, including a caller who stated that their home had been shot into.

As officers responded to the scene, Hickory Police received an additional call that a possible white male suspect was walking in the area with a gun in his hand. Additional Officers responded to the area and found the suspect who fled as the officers attempted to make contact with him.

The officers pursued the suspect while giving him commands to stop. The suspect continued to flee and as the officers were pursuing, he turned and pulled a handgun from his waistband. The officers reacted and discharged their firearms striking the suspect. Officers on the scene immediately contacted EMS who responded and declared the subject deceased.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Timothy Craig Setzer Jr. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was requested and responded to conduct and independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

The investigation of the shooting into occupied dwelling is being conducted by the Hickory Police Department. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Hickory Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
