Suspect in Tuesday Morning Officer-Involved Shooting Identified

The individual injured in an officer-involved shooting yesterday on Interstate 40 in Burke County has been identified. She is 45-year-old Keisha Michelle Brown of Villa Rica, Georgia.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was notified of multiple hit & run traffic collisions between McDowell and Burke counties and a subsequent related armed kidnapping on I-40 eastbound near mile marker 114.

A Highway Patrol Sergeant arrived and found the suspect, Keisha Michelle Brown, in the bed of a truck beside the roadway. The suspect fired shots at the Officer. The Officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where she was last reported to be in stable condition. The Officer was not injured.

Pending her release from the hospital, Brown will be served with warrants for first-degree kidnapping and first-degree attempted murder.
