Suspect In Hickory Shooting Case Apprehended (Updated with additional information, 4:59 a.m., 3/20/23)
18-year-old Toland Huff, Jr. of 14th Avenue Drive SW in Hickory was arrested Friday (March 17) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and discharge a weapon into occupied property.
Huff was wanted by authorities for allegedly firing several shots into two residences at Sunny Valley Apartments on 3rd Avenue SE in Hickory at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday (March 14). WHKY previously reported on the incident after Hickory Police released information last Thursday (March 16). One apartment was occupied and one was unoccupied. There was reportedly a juvenile in the occupied residence. There were no injuries in the shooting.
Authorities said Huff left the scene in a red Toyota Avalon. According to reports, Huff turned himself in at the Catawba County Detention Facility. He was initially jailed in that facility without bond.
As of earlier today (March 20) Huff was not listed as an inmate in Catawba County. A District Court date was scheduled today. If you have information on this case you are asked to contact Hickory Police at 828-328-5551.
