Suspect Facing Numerous Sex-Related Charges Indicted On Additional Count

A Burke County man facing multiple sexual exploitation and indecent liberties charges has been indicted on an additional count.

41-year-old Aaron Doyle Mirtsching of Oakdale Drive in Morganton was arrested Wednesday (November 29) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged on a true bill of indictment with felony indecent liberties with a child.

Mirtsching was previously charged by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on August 22 and August 24. He was charged with a combined total of 15 counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, four counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation with a minor, and one count of statutory sex offense with a person 13, 14, and 15 years of age.

According to police reports filed in August, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office investigated a cyber-tip that was received from Internet Crimes Against Children. Following the investigation, the initial warrants were issued against Mirtsching.

According to multiple published reports, the suspect worked at New Dimensions Charter School in Morganton. He also worked as a youth pastor at Thrive Church and was fired from that position after church officials learned of the arrest.

Following Wednesday’s arrest, $25,000 secured bond was set. As of earlier today (December 1) Mirtsching was being held at the Burke County Jail under a total bond of $325,000 secured. Superior Court dates are scheduled for January 2, January 8, and January 10.
