Suspect Charged With Kidnapping, Vehicle Theft

18-year-old Carson Dennis Tate III of Salisbury was arrested Friday (February 10) by Statesville Police Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of kidnapping and larceny of a motor vehicle along with misdemeanor counts of carrying a concealed weapon and resist, obstruct, and delay an officer.

Police responded to a call from the 2000 block of Tara’s Trace Drive Friday at approximately 7:50 a.m. in regards to the theft of a motor vehicle. Officers were told that a 10-year-old child was sitting in the rear passenger seat when the offense occurred. Prior to leaving the neighborhood, the child escaped the vehicle and returned home on foot.

Assisting officers found the stolen vehicle traveling east on Davie Avenue. The officers conducted a traffic stop and found the suspect, Carson Dennis Tate III, in possession of the vehicle. Tate was the only occupant in the vehicle, and after being taken into custody a firearm was reportedly found in his possession. Officers seized the weapon and were able to return the vehicle to its owner.

Tate was jailed in the Iredell County Detention Center under $25,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (February 13). No court date was listed.
