Suspect Charged With Indecent Liberties With Child
51-year-old John O’Neal Joy, Jr. of Almond Road in Mooresville was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child.
According to a published report, a news release issued Thursday (October 12) states that the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on October 3 after receiving a report regarding possible sexual activity between a child and an adult.
The case was assigned to Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit. The alleged juvenile victim was interviewed and John O’Neal Joy, Jr. was identified as a suspect. As a result of additional interviews and evidence gathered in this investigation, a detective obtained warrants for Joy’s arrest.
Joy was arrested on Thursday, October 5 at his home and was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where bond was set at $100,000 secured. Joy was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (October 13). His next District Court date is October 27.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Joy’s criminal history includes a felony charge of attempted child abuse inflicting serious mental injury.
