Suspect Charged With Having Drugs At Jail

25-year-old Tory Jerome Benjamin, who is listed as a homeless person from Morganton, was arrested Monday (March 11) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance in prison or jail and possession of methamphetamine.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information Website, Benjamin has multiple convictions in Burke, Catawba and Lincoln Counties. All of the convictions were on misdemeanor charges with the most recent being on March 7 of this year.

Benjamin was arrested shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday and placed in the Burke County Jail under $7,500 bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (March 14). A District Court date is set for March 22.
