Suspect Charged With Drug Offenses, Meth & Marijuana Seized

57-year-old Juan Gregory McPherson of 2nd Street in Morganton was arrested Tuesday (August 1) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance along with misdemeanor counts of simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance and resist, delay, or obstruct a public officer.

Tuesday, shortly before 12 noon, a Public Safety Officer was dispatched to Burke Mission Station on West Union Street in reference to a report of trespassing. It was believed that the suspect was possibly selling drugs outside the entrance to the facility and staff wanted him banned from the area. It was also learned that McPherson also had an outstanding warrant against him. Police reportedly seized one-half gram of methamphetamine and one gram of marijuana after responding to the scene.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Juan Gregory McPherson has multiple convictions listed dating back to 1987. He’s been convicted of multiple offenses including indecent liberties with a child, breaking and entering to vehicles, and assault by strangulation. Most of the convictions were in Burke County, there were also cases listed from Rutherford and McDowell Counties. The last conviction listed was in 2009 in Burke.

McPherson was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail following the arrest under $5,200 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (August 2). A District Court date is scheduled Thursday (August 3).
