Suspect Arrested On Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop, Seizure Of Marijuana

22-year-old Cortney Sirron Phifer, Jr. of Winston-Salem was arrested Saturday (March 2) by Statesville Police Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possesion of marijuana, possession with intent to sell & deliver marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance. Additionally, Phifer was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest for felony probation violation.

An officer with the Statesville Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a white GMC for a stop sign violation at the intersection of Lerain Court and Dobson Avenue. Prior to the vehicle coming to a stop, the driver discarded a bag from the vehicle, which landed on the roadway.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and found the discarded bag. Upon inspection, officers discovered approximately five pounds of marijuana concealed within the bag. The driver of the GMC, identified as Cortney Sirron Phifer, Jr., was taken into custody. A thorough search conducted by officers resulted in the discovery of $3,805 in U.S. currency in Phifer’s possession.

Following his arrest, Phifer was jailed in the Iredell County Detention Center under $30,000 secured bond for the probation violation. He was initially denied bond for the drug-related charges. As of earlier today (March 6), Phifer was not listed as an inmate in Iredell County. His next District Court date is March 25.
