Suspect Arrested In Lenoir Rape Case (Updated With Additional Information, 1:26 p.m., 8/19/20)

22-year-old Zachary Demill Jones of Boundary Street in Lenoir was arrested Tuesday (August 18) by Lenoir Police Officers. He’s charged with felony second-degree forcible rape.

Jones is the suspect in the sexual assault case under investigation by the Lenoir Police Department, previously reported on WHKY. On Sunday (August 16) at 9:35 p.m., Lenoir Police responded to an address in the Joyceton area inside the city limits of Lenoir to investigate the sexual assault of an elderly female.

It is unknown at this time whether or not this case is related to other cases in our region. The Lenoir Police Department is working with other agencies to share information related to this case. Additional charges against Jones are possible.

He was taken into custody at the Lenoir Police Department shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday. Lenoir Police Chief Brent Phelps thanked the Hudson Police Department for their assistance in the investigation. Jones was confined in the Caldwell County Detention Center under $175,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (August 19).
