Suspect Arrested Following Burke County Traffic Stop, Drugs Seized By Police
46-year-old Barry Gene Deal of Hennessee Street in Glen Alpine was arrested Tuesday (October 3) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance, possession of schedule II controlled substance, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule VI controlled substance.
Deal is also charged with misdemeanor counts of simple possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed gun, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance, and cruelty to animals along with a count of expired operators license.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop of a white 2009 Lincoln Town Car on Burkemont Avenue in Morganton. The officer stopped the vehicle after learning that the owner of the vehicle’s license was expired. After making contact with the driver, identified as Barry Gene Deal, the officer arrested the suspect. During the investigation, the officer seized 12 grams of methamphetamine, five dosage units of hydrocodone, two dosage units of oxycodone, and 150 grams of marijuana.
Deal was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail following the arrest under $30,000 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (October 5). Deal was scheduled to appear in District Court in Morganton today and October 30.
