Summer Safety Urged By NCDHHS
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is urging residents to stay safe as summer activities increase across the state.
Officials say water safety is critical during National Water Safety Month, noting that drowning remains a leading cause of death for young children. Parents are encouraged to actively supervise children near pools, lakes, and rivers, secure pool areas, and be aware of changing water conditions.
State health leaders also warn of heat-related illness risks after thousands of emergency department visits last year. Symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, and nausea should be taken seriously, and residents should stay hydrated and cool.
Dr. Kelly Kimple says summer should be enjoyed safely, with attention to water, heat, and food safety practices to prevent illness and injury.
