Streets Closed as Lenoir Prepares for Tomorrow’s Gravity Games
Sections of Main Street, Ashe Avenue, and several other streets in downtown Lenoir have been closed in preparation for the 2023 North Carolina Gravity Games, which start tomorrow (April 29). Main Street is closed from Ashe Avenue to West Avenue in Downtown Lenoir. Ashe Avenue is closed from Church Street to Ridge Street. Also closed is West Avenue from Church Street to Mulberry Street. Another section of Main Street is closed from West Avenue to Harper Avenue. Detour signs are posted.
People traveling north or south through Downtown Lenoir can detour via College Avenue, Willow Street, and Scruggs Street. Drivers heading east to west can detour via Norwood Street, College Avenue, Willow Street, and West Avenue. Harper Avenue will be open for through traffic. All streets should reopen by Saturday evening.
The 10th Annual North Carolina Gravity Games includes gravity-powered racing, STEM activities, free games, and more. The event is sponsored by Google, Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina via the N.C. Science Festival, the City of Lenoir, and downtown Lenoir.
