Storm Downs Trees, Closes Vale-Area Road for an Hour

A powerful storm that moved through the area just before midnight Friday (June 12) brought down three large trees, completely blocking Mull Road and prompting a response from local firefighters.

The Cooksville Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, with Engine 141 arriving first and requesting additional assistance from Northbrook Fire Department to access the roadway from the opposite side. Additional Cooksville units, including Truck 147 and Command 146, were also called in to provide equipment and manpower.

Firefighters from both departments worked for approximately an hour to remove the trees and reopen the roadway to traffic.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation was notified and will conduct follow-up work to further clear debris and trees from the roadside right-of-way areas.

The Cooksville Volunteer Fire Department thanked the Northbrook Fire Department for its assistance, noting that the additional equipment and personnel played a significant role in quickly restoring access to the road.
