Stony Point Man Charged With Fleeing From Police, Drug Offenses

39-year-old Thomas Jackson Branson, Jr. of Harris Street in Stony Point was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of flee to elude arrest in a motor vehicle, possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, and maintain a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance. He’s also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.

Last Friday (July 31), officers assigned to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team attempted to stop a Chevrolet truck on Midway Road in Stony Point after the vehicle nearly struck the deputies head on. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed through Stony Point before coming to a stop at the dead end of Harris Street just inside Alexander County. The driver, Thomas Branson, got out of the vehicle, and was taken into custody without incident.

Branson and the truck were searched after his arrest. The two deputies reportly found crystal meth packaged for sale, and drug paraphernalia. While searching the criminal history records for Branson, officers learned that Branson’s driver’s license had been suspended for a DWI conviction.

Branson was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was jailed under $20,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (August 5). His next District Court date is August 19.
