Statesville Man Arrested on Felony Assault Charge

59-year-old Brady Wayne Gaither, Jr. of Tabor Road in Statesville has been arrested by Iredell County Sheriff Officers on one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

He was arrested in connection to an incident Friday (July 28) when Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from Gaither’s residence, near Harmony. The call was in reference to a possible home invasion and assault.

The caller reported that unknown persons entered the home during the night and assaulted a 16-year-old juvenile who was sleeping on a couch. Deputies found the juvenile victim suffering from severe lacerations and injuries to her face and head. The victim was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, which were described as serious.

Investigators recovered evidence and interviewed family members and witnesses at the scene and at the hospital. Investigators determined that the juvenile was assaulted by a blunt object, which was found in the home. Detectives also determined that a home invasion had not occurred. They learned that the victim was allegedly assaulted by Brady Wayne Gaither, Jr., who is related to the victim and also lives in the home.

A warrant for Gaither’s arrest was issued. He was taken into custody at his home. Gaither was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $450,000 secured bond. He currently has a Superior Court date on a felony assault charge scheduled for August 14 and a District Court appearance on a felony assault charge coming up on August 21. The incident is still under investigation. Further charges are possible.

Gaither has a criminal history that includes felony counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, common law robbery, identity theft, and obstruction of justice, along with misdemeanor counts of injury to real property, assault on a female, assault inflict serious injury, simple assault, assault with a deadly weapon, driving while license revoked, no operators license, possession of marijuana, speeding, and reckless driving.
