Election officials in North Carolina are reminding voters to stay alert as mid-term election season gets underway ahead of Election Day 2026. The State Board of Elections says voter registration drives and mass mailings are increasing, and while many efforts are legitimate, some communications can be confusing.

Officials say voters do not need to re-register if they are already registered at their current address, even if approached by registration drive workers. They also note that state and county elections staff do not go door-to-door, and anyone claiming to be an official should provide identification.

Voters are encouraged to verify registration status using the State Board’s online tools and to return completed forms directly to their county board of elections. Officials also advise caution with large-scale mailings and say recipients can contact organizations directly to verify or opt out of future communications. The deadline to register for the November 2026 general election is October 9.
