The Hickory Police Department is investigating a stabbing death. Friday (May 6) shortly after 11 p.m., the Hickory Police Department’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a man who said that there was a verbal altercation in progress outside a residence on 2nd Avenue SE.
Upon arrival, officers found 37-year-old Brandon Scott Willis lying on the ground with several stab wounds. Catawba County EMS responded and transported Willis to Frye Regional Medical Center. Willis was initially treated at Frye before being transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he passed away as a result of his injuries.
During the initial investigation, witnesses said that Brandon Willis was walking in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue SE when he began a verbal altercation with two individuals who were sitting in a vehicle in the driveway of the previously mentioned residence on 2nd Avenue SE.
It was reported that Willis attacked one of the individuals, a 21-year-old man, knocking him to the ground and continued to physically assault him. That man stabbed Willis during the assault and immediately called 911 for assistance. Investigators are continuing their investigation and additional details were to be released as they become available. As of Sunday morning (May 8) no charges had been filed.
