Skunk in Caldwell County Tests Positive for Rabies

Earlier today (November 21), the North Carolina State Laboratory notified Caldwell County Animal Care Enforcement that a skunk submitted for testing was infected with the rabies virus. The skunk was found on Red Oak Road when it contacted a dog. It’s the fourth confirmed rabies case in Caldwell County this year and the second case on Red Oak Road.

Anyone with questions concerning rabies or rabies vaccinations should contact Animal Care Enforcement at 828-757-8625 or — in case of an emergency — call the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at 828-758-2324.
