Six Suspects Charged Following Three Month Drug Investigation In Burke County

35-year-old Misty Ellen Sweeney of U.S. 64, 46-year-old Jay Edward Mcallister of Silver Creek Terrace, 54-year-old Teresa Walker Cannon of U.S. 64, 33-year-old David Allen Dawson, Jr. of Lane Street, 37-year-old James Roy Woodie of Walker Road, and 31-year-old Stephanie Denise Brown of Duckworth Circle, all from Morganton, were arrested last Friday (July 31) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers.

All six suspects are charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. Sweeney is additionally charged with felony counts of trafficking heroin and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Mcallister is also charged with felony possession of heroin. Cannon is additionally charged with felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Woodie is also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division received information of possible drug related activity at an address on U.S. 64 in Morganton. During the course of a three-month investigation, detectives developed probable cause regarding the sale of heroin and methamphetamine.

On Friday, detectives served a search warrant on the property, resulting in the arrest of the six suspects. Sweeney’s weapon charged was filed when she was reportedly found to be in possession of a sawed-off shotgun, which was seized.

Sweeney’s bond was set at $35,000 secured. Mcallister and Cannon received $10,000 secured bonds. Bond for Dawson and Woodie was set at $5,000 secured. Brown received a $3,000 secured bond. All six suspects were scheduled to make first court appearances Monday (August 3) in Morganton.
