Sister Act, A Divine Musical Comedy Coming to the Green Room in Newton

The Green Room Community Theatre will present Sister Act, a Divine Musical Comedy in the McCreary Theatre on May 3 – May 19, 2024. The show is directed by Joey Moray, musically directed by Kiki Neale, and choreographed by Donna Owens. The producers for this show are Cargo Transporters, Covered Bridge Investment Group, United Arts Council of Catawba County, Ken Wilkinson, and Allen Wood.

Sister Act, A Dive Musical Comedy is written by Sheri and Bill Steinkellner, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Glenn Slater. The musical is based off the 1992 starring Whoopi Goldberg and tells the story of disco club singer in the late 1970’s, Deloris Van Cartier played by Jazmin Fox, who is placed in protective custody in a dying convent. “Her unique brand of funk comes face-to-face with the traditions of the church and the strict order is in for a change,” reads a Sister Act press release. Masquerading as a nun named Mary Clarence, this sister’s act will have you laughing and singing in the aisles. Nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical is being produced by special arrangement by Music Theatre International.

Joining Fox in the cast are Jenny Marco as Mother Superior, Andrew Monroe as Curtis, the mobster, Preston Smith as cop Eddie, Gina Tucciarone as Sister Mary Patrick, Julia Howard as Sister Mary Robert, Barabara Micun as Sister Mary Lazarus, Sharon McDermott as Sister Mary Theresa, Ashley Hood as Sister Mary Martin-of- Tours, and Kurt Sigmon as the Monsignor O’Hara. Also appearing in the ensemble playing numerous roles are Clam Sepulveda playing the role of Pablo, Chad Schuermeyer as TJ, Matt Spry as Ernie, Terry Evans as Joey, Eden Johns as Tina, Emily Mady as Michelle. Rounding out the cast is a wonderful ensemble including Sebastian Bannister, Christina Garris, Kendall Melton, Sarah Kate Pedraza, Jada’- Nicole Robinson, Lou Sitaras, Bradley Wallace, Breanna Wallace and Lisa Willis.

Performances are scheduled for May 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 2024. On Friday and Saturday, the performances will be at 7:30pm. On Sunday, the performances will be at 3:00pm.
