[Update at 2:42 p.m.]Shots Reportedly Fired During Chase, Suspect Arrested

A check of a parking area in western Lincoln County Wednesday (June 19) resulted in the discovery of a stolen vehicle, a chase with the suspect and shots being fired.

30-year-old Jeremy Aaron Huffman was arrested on Thursday (June 20) by Cleveland County Sheriff’s Officers after leading a stolen car chase and firing shots at officers on Wednesday afternoon.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a routine check of an area where a taco food truck operates at the intersection of NC Highways 18 and 10. A vehicle was determined to have been stolen. When officers approached the vehicle the driver fled south on Highway 18 into Cleveland County. During the chase the suspect held a handgun out of the driver’s side window and fired at pursuing officers. Deputies returned fire and several other shots were fired as the suspect vehicle, reportedly stolen in Catawba County, traveled south in Cleveland County. The officers were not struck by the gunfire and the suspect was also believed to be uninjured.

According to published reports, The pursuit began at Highways 18 and 10 in Lincoln County around 3:15 p.m. and ended at Polkville Road and West Dixon Boulevard in Shelby. After running the vehicle’s tag, deputies said it was registered as stolen from a Lowe’s in Catawba County.

At the time of this report Huffman remained in the Cleveland County Detention Center under no bond. He was charged with felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and larceny of a motor vehicle.
