The shootings last week that claimed the life of one child and injured two others remain under investigation. No arrests had been made in connection to these incidents. The shootings occurred the evening of June 28 in Statesville. According to the Statesville Police Department, just before 7 p.m. on that date officers responded to an address on Wilson Lee Boulevard.
Police found two children outside of the residence who had suffered gunshot wounds. One child was an eight-year-old female and the other was seven-year-old male. Officers arrived and immediately began life saving efforts until EMS arrived. Witnesses said a white vehicle that may have been a Mercedes was heading southbound in the 1300 block of Wilson Lee Boulevard with a person shooting from inside the vehicle.
Both children were transported from the scene to the hospital. The eight-year-old female, Ah’Miyahh Howell, passed away. The seven-year-old boy sustained serious injuries. While the Statesville Police Department was processing the crime scene on Wilson Lee Boulevard, gunshots were heard shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Newbern Avenue. In that case, a ten-year-old male suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Witnesses said they saw a vehicle, which was also white, but described as a possible Honda Accord, drive by with an individual shooting from inside the vehicle. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Mooresville Police Department responded and assisted with crowd control and scene security.
