Shooting Under Investigation in Statesville

Statesville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday (March 5) in Statesville.

At about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Officers responded to the incident at a residence on the 600 block of West Bell Street. Officers found 33-year-old Cameron Connor of Statesville in the residence suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso. The Statesville Fire Department and Iredell County E.M.S. responded and Connor was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Connor unlawfully entered the victim’s residence where the victim was present with his seven-year-old son. Police say the victim repeatedly told Connor to leave, but Connor persisted and physically assaulted the victim. The victim then discharged a firearm, resulting in Connor’s injury. A neighbor arrived on the scene and was directed by the victim to contact emergency services.

Police say Connor is presently on probation for prior drug-related offenses and has a documented history of mental illness.
