Shooting Into Home Remains Under Investigation, Public’s Assistance Sought

The Newton Police Department is continuing to seek the public’s assistance in investigating a shooting into an occupied dwelling. On May 13, at approximately 10:45 p.m., an unknown suspect or suspects discharged a firearm into a residence on South Caldwell Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman inside the house with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported by EMS to Catawba Valley Medical Center before being flown to Atrium Health in Charlotte. Additional occupants of the house, one adult female and three small children, were all uninjured. Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.

Investigators believe that someone passing through the area during this time may have noticed a vehicle or someone suspicious. As of this afternoon (May 17), the injured occupant of the residence remained in critical but stable condition at Atrium Health in Charlotte.

Anyone that may have witnessed a vehicle or person in the area is asked to contact Investigator William Garrett at 828-695-4293 or at WGarrett@newtonnc.gov.
