Shooting in Hickory Leaves One Person in Critical Condition

Earlier today (September 2), deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person being shot at a residence on 28th Street NE off of Kool Park Road. When deputies arrived they learned that a 39-year-old man suffered a gunshot to his chest. This person was found by deputies at the intersection of Kool Park Road and 29th Street NE adjacent to a vehicle which had been used to transport him for medical attention. This person was ultimately transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center where he was last reported to be in critical condition.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation into this incident. Areas of 28th Street NE were identified as crime scenes. Investigators also conducted a canvass of that area and are continuing to interview people involved in this incident.

A second person, an 18-year-old male, was also injured during this incident. Investigators were trying to ascertain the nature of those injuries as of late this afternoon. This person was treated and then released from Catawba Valley Medical Center.

No charges had been filed relating to this incident as of late this afternoon. The case remains under investigation.
