28-year-old Leah Marie Granger of Beatty Road in Sherrill’s Ford has been arrested and charged with one felony count of embezzlement. She is accused of embezzling from the Denver, North Carolina business where she worked.
On October 9 of this year, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began an embezzlement investigation after the owner of a business filed a report stating that money was found to be missing from the business account after an internal audit was completed. The business is located on the 4300 block of Highway 16 North Business. Lincoln County Detectives determined that an employee was converting gift cards, credit transactions, and other means into cash and keeping it.
Over the past two months, Detectives and the business owner determined that at least $14,000 had been taken between January 1 and September 30 of this year. The money was taken only when one specific employee was working. That employee was Leah Marie Granger.
Granger turned herself in at the Lincoln County Courthouse today (November 28). She was processed and released under a $10,000 unsecured bond. A first appearance in Lincoln County District Court was set for tomorrow.
