22-year-old Bryana Salymar Martines of Washington Street in Shelby has been arrested by Hickory Police on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a stolen automobile. She was charged in connection to the death of 72-year-old Robert Bruce Godfrey, whose body was found Saturday (December 4) at Preston Ridge apartments in Hickory. Mr. Godfrey had last been seen on Thanksgiving Day. Police say he had been dead for several days when his body was discovered.
During the initial investigation, Godfrey’s vehicle was discovered missing from the residence and was reported stolen. The stolen vehicle was recovered by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police in the possession of 28-year-old Abraham Adon, Jr.of Fort Mill, SC. On Tuesday (December 7) Adon was located by Charlotte Mecklenburg PD in possession of the stolen vehicle. CMPD attempted to stop Adon who fled into South Carolina. Adon is currently being held in South Carolina awaiting extradition for the charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.
Martines was jailed Wednesday (December 8) in the Catawba County Detention Facility where she is being held without bond on the murder charge. Bond was set at $5,000 on the stolen vehicle charge. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled Thursday (December 9) in Newton.
