At about 8:05 this morning (August 27), the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to a school bus collision with injuries in Iredell County on Shumaker Drive at Houpe Road.
An Iredell-Statesville school bus traveling north on Shumaker Drive slowed down to turn right onto Houpe Road when a 2006 Mazda Tribute traveling south on Shumaker Drive crossed the double-yellow centerline and sideswiped the bus. The left front wheel of the small S.U.V. became detached.
The driver of the Mazda, 52-year-old Jonathan Davis of Statesville, sustained minor injuries and was transported by E.M.S. to a local hospital. The bus from East Iredell Middle School was occupied by two adults and 26 students. The driver of the school bus (a 36-year-old Troutman woman) and nine students were transported by E.M.S. to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The Highway Patrol’s investigation is ongoing. Davis has been charged with driving left of center.
