The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close a section of the roadway in Iredell County to install new storm drainage and to repair a sinkhole. That work will start next week.
Beginning Sept. 20, U.S. 21 (South Center Street) in Statesville will be closed from East Bell Street to Garfield Street to replace a section of storm drainage. This project is anticipated to be complete by October 25.
Motorists will a detour route that follows U.S. 64 (West Front Street) to U.S. 70 (Garner Bagnal Boulevard) to U.S. 21 (South Center Street) during the closure.
