Scam Under Investigation By Burke County Authorities

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office reports that they’ve been contacted regarding a scam being committed in the community.

The agency was told that someone is calling local residents claiming to be a Burke County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sergeant Brian Collins. The scammer is telling the citizens that they have missed a court date and they need to turn themselves in or pay a fee. This is a tactic often used by perpetrators conducting impersonation scams.

The Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that they will never ask you for money over the phone. If you receive a call like this you are advised to hang up.
If you ever have questions or concerns about a phone call that seems suspicious call the Sheriff’s Office. When you call, ask to speak with someone on duty to verify the information that you received.
