Saturday COVID-19 Update Deaths Reported In Two Hickory Metro Counties, Another Outbreak Reported In Caldwell

Three more COVID-19-associated deaths were reported Friday (July 24) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 24 since the start of the pandemic. In addition, 29 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Friday, increasing the total to 1,685. Hospitalizations dropped to 20, from 24 on Thursday (July 23).

The Caldwell County Health Department reported the 11th COVID-19-related death in the county Friday. The patient was over the age of 75, and had been hospitalized. The patient was not associated with any of the county’s outbreaks. 16 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Friday, increasing the count to 905. There were 18 Caldwell County residents hospitalized and at least 426 patients had recovered.

The sixth outbreak in a Caldwell County congregate living facility was reported Friday. Lenoir Health Care had one employee and one resident test positive for COVID-19, which meets the state’s standard for an outbreak. A spokesperson from the facility says they have tested all of their residents and staff and are working closely with the Caldwell County Health Department to stop the spread of the virus.

Burke County Public Health reported 14 additional cases of COVID-19 Friday, increasing the county’s total to at 1452, with 25 deaths. There were ten people hospitalized with the coronavirus Friday. Two additional COVID-19 cases were confirmed Friday in Alexander County, upping the total to 238, with two deaths. There was one Alexander County resident hospitalized.
