Saturday COVID-19 Update: Deaths Reported In Three Hickory Metro Counties Friday

Caldwell County learned of its 25th COVID-19-related death Friday (September 11). The patient was over the age of 75 and had underlying conditions. 14 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Friday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 1,558. There were 24 people hospitalized.

The 49th COVID-19-related death was reported Friday by Catawba County Public Health. In addition, 35 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Catawba County, raising the overall total to 2,802. There were ten people hospitalized with COVID-19, one more than Thursday (September 10).

Burke County Public Health Friday reported the 40th COVID-19-associated death in the county, health officials were notified late Thursday about the individual in their 70s passing away. They were hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions.

The Burke County Health Department reported a total of 2,154 positive cases of COVID-19 Friday, down from 2,160 cases on Thursday. According to reports, Burke actually had eight new positive cases on Friday but eliminated 14 infections as a result of two duplicate cases, plus the fact that there are students who have tested positive but have gone to college in another area. Reports say those students cases have been deleted from Burke County’s overall number and included in the totals of the counties where they are enrolled in school.

The Alexander County Health Department reported no new cases of the coronavirus Friday, keeping the total number of infections at 450, with three deaths.
